Art series „Essenz“ - Tim Neiser
To the point. In his art series “Essence” the director and cameraman Tim Neiser combines whole films, but also well-known places in one picture. Using his own technique of photography and editing, he combines sometimes hundreds of still images to create unique, surreal works of art.
Surreal Works
He also used his international activities as a director for this project. New York, Los Angeles, Istanbul, Rome, London. Therefore he used his creative freedom to depict the places in a very special way. The works allow for strong associations: those familiar with the place recognize the motifs. The richness of detail is impressive. Different distances to the picture create new effects.
Snapshots of Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles, the Istiklal Caddesi in Istanbul, the Via Condotti in Rome describe some of these recorded places.
London – Bond Street
Named after the building contractor Sir Thomas Bond, Bondstreet is considered one of the most expensive shopping streets in the United Kingdom. It is the only street in the Mayfair district that connects Piccadilly and Oxford Street. Major brands such as Chanel, Colde Gabbana, Louis Vuitton or Tiffany’s. are located here. However, over this 800-meter-long shopping street you will also find some of the most unique hotels and restaurants in the world.
New York – Fifth Avenue
10,86km lang, 30.000€ per square meter annual rent. One of the most famous streets in the world, it stretches from Washington Square Park through all of Manhattan to Harlem. On the west side is the green lung of New York, Central Park. The photographs show many of the prominent locations on Fifth Avenue.
Los Angeles – Rodeo Drive
Until 1950 still a horse track, today one of the most glamorous and expensive shopping miles. International luxury brands such as Gucci, Dior or Michael Kors have their branches here. The famous Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunset Boulevard is also known as a meeting place for people from the film industry. James Dean, Robert De Niro and Paul McCartney have already checked in here.
Istanbul – Abdi İpekçi
Abdi İpekçi street is one of the most important shopping streets in Istanbul. It was named after Abdi İpekçi, the renowned journalist and editor-in-chief of the major Turkish newspaper Milliyet. A multitude of exclusive and expensive stores with Turkish and international designer labels, restaurants with international cuisine and cafés line up on both sides of the street.
Düsseldorf – Königsallee
This work is the home game of Neiser. The luxury shopping street Königsallee, Kö for short, is located in the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia. At 87 meters, it is incidentally the widest street in Germany. Another characteristic feature of Königsallee is the Stadtgraben, the Kö-Graben, which divides the street into its northern and southern sections.
Highly concentrated films
Footage from The Incredibles, Nosferatu or Taxi Driver create a variety of images. A new way to interpret film classics. Again, cineasts recognize which films are to be seen. In dazzling colors and glaring contrasts, each film offers its own aesthetic.
The Wizard of OZ
“The Wizard of OZ” became famous as one of the first great American color films. It is still considered the most famous film in the United States today. The film starts in black and white. However, when Dorothy enters OZ, the story is shot in color for the first time. The audience, who saw a film for the first time, was absolutely thrilled.
